HONG SOUN

Hong Souns scheinbar romantische Ölgemälde beziehen sich auf alltägliche Pressefotos von Gewalt und Zerstörung. Der Künstler richtet den Fokus auf Details am Rande seiner fotografischen Vorlagen, wie zum Beispiel den Himmel, den Hintergrund oder zwei aneinandergeschmiegte Silhouetten. Diese Motive sind mit losem Pinselstrich auf die Leinwand gesetzt und erscheinen leicht, durchsichtig und schattenhaft. Hong setzt dem Grauen nicht eine heile Welt entgegen, sondern versucht, ihm so nahe wie möglich zu kommen und wandelt es um in die Frage, was unsere menschliche Existenz ausmacht.

Hong Soun ist 1959 in Seoul, Korea, geboren. Er graduierte an der Busan National University in Korea und an der École National Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Frankreich. Er zeigte Einzelausstellungen in folgenden Institutionen: Maraya Art Center (Sharjah, AE), Mimesis Art Museum (Paju, KOR), National Museum of Contemporary Art (Gwacheon, KOR) und Savina Museum of Contemporary Art (Seoul, KOR). Er nahm an der Santa Fe International Bienniale in 2008 teil und seine Arbeiten finden sich auch in den Sammlungen des Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul, KR; Santa Fe Art Institute, Santa Fe, USA; Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Gyeonggi-do KOR und Ho-Am Art Museum, Seoul, KOR.
